Blood Clot and Pulmonary Embolism Workgroup Meeting

On Thursday, April 5, 2024, AHCA published a notice of meeting for the Blood Clot and Pulmonary Embolism Workgroup. The meeting will be held April 17, 2024, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., and can be attended here.

Background: On October 21, 2022, Emily Adkins, Administrator of Dayspring Senior Living, died of a blood clot following an ankle fracture. Her parents, Janet and Doug Adkins channeled their grief into advocacy and spearheaded legislation, "The Emily Adkins Prevention Act", SB 612 (2023), a groundbreaking measure passed by the Florida Legislature. The Act greenlights the creation of a policy workgroup that will examine how blood clots and pulmonary embolism affects the lives of Floridians.

The goal of the workgroup, among other things, is to consider recommendations around standards of care guidelines for blood clot patients and determine how many Florida residents are affected by blood clots. The workgroup would also identify how data is collected, identify emerging treatments and therapies, and develop recommendations for risk surveillance systems.
